Project Description

Target Audience: Literature lovers, students in my JOUR479 class

This illustration was designed as my first project within a Visualization in Journalism course at the University of Maryland. The project’s goal was to challenge how we as designers see the world, particularly focusing on hands as the subject matter. We had to represent human hands in 12 different ways, one of which referencing literature or writing.

I chose to illustrate a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote because of its direct use of the word “hand” as well as its connection of hands to creativity.

I was excited to use my illustration and typography styles in a journalistic context, as it directly connects both of my areas of study.
